Talking to doctors

The Health Management Review Africa (HMR) is a new alternate monthly magazine to be launched this month and is dedicated to the communication requirements of all stakeholders in the private healthcare sector.

Pipe Trade Media Publisher Rory Macnamara believes that motivation for such a publication is self-explanatory: "An analysis of many of the current issues, or problem areas, facing this sector, clearly shows a breakdown in or complete lack of communication between the parties involved in most cases.

"Unfortunately, many of these are not only regulatory bodies and government agencies, but also interest groups down the line. Needless to say this has a serious negative effect on healthcare delivery and management at patient level."

Edited by healthcare journalist Roy Watson, the first issue is scheduled for May / June.

Macnamara says: "Our analysis and motivation for HMR shows the need for a magazine which will provide a forum to communicate the many issues facing this sector and address the business matters facing practitioners in the day to day running of their practices.

Target readership of the new magazine will include general practitioners, medical specialists, medical scheme administrators, managed healthcare executives/network managers and pharmaceutical industry corporate executives.

Macnamara says editorial will be mainly of a "business to business" nature with the overall intention of bridging the communications gap between the different stakeholders.
