A judging panel from the magazine and Standard Bank selected the top 15 and Khwezi Magwaza, the magazine's editor, said: “Choosing the finalists was no easy task - it simply gets tougher, as the entries are of such high calibre. This year's finalists are extremely talented and we wish them all the success with the announcement of the winners at the awards ceremony in December.”

Category finalists
- The finalists were chosen in the following five categories:
- Do-Gooder focuses on those giving their precious time to making the world a better place. Finalists are Taryn Coop, 20 (Joburg), Hannah-Rose Smith, 15 (Cape Town) and Beatrice Bosch, 17 (Prieska).
- The Next Big Thing category showcases superstars in the making with Janri Geldenhuys, 16 (Free State), Loyiso Makapela, 20 (Bloemfontein) and Tershalya Pillay, 16 (Durban).
- Miss Independent category gives exposure to girls who are young entrepreneurs, namely Leah Chuene, 17 (Polokwane), Gabi Goldberg, 17 (Cape Town) and Nazeefa Jamal, 18 (Dundee).
- Green Queen, salutes eco-warriors fighting to mend Mother Earth. These are Noëlle Oosthuizen, 16 (Cape Town), Chelsea Tucker, 16 (Joburg) and Sune Gerber, 17 (Pretoria).
- The Gold Medallist category highlights the achievement of sporting teens, namely Shannon Horrocks, 17 (Pinetown), Jessica Ashley-Cooper, 17 (Cape Town) and Dominique Dryding, 16 (Cape Town).
Winners will appear in a photo shoot, published in the January issue, on sale from 16 December 2009.
