As communicated on Friday, 29 May 2020, the City of Cape Town will start reopening some of its driving license testing centres and motor vehicle licensing offices from 9 June 2020 subject to national and provincial processes and health and safety regulations to ensure the safety of staff and members of the public. Some of these offices might open in phases to ensure all health and safety requirements are in place prior to opening.

Motorists are reminded that a 90-day grace period applies for expired driving licenses, learner licenses, PrDPs and vehicle registration and renewal discs.

Grace periods from 1 June for:

    • Driving licences applications and renewal

    • Learner’s licences

    • Temporary permits

    • Professional driving permits (prdps)

    • Roadworthy certificates

    • The registering and licensing of a motor vehicle, as well as annual licence renewals

In addition, the validity period for the renewal of a motor trade number licence is extended for a further six months from 1 June 2020.

Follow the City on Facebook or on Twitter for more information.
