The awards acknowledge the best in the airline industry. The South African low cost airline stood out in the category for their innovation, value for money and extensive route network. In addition, they make flying possible for those who previously could not afford it.

Top marks awarded

The carrier scored top marks in both safety and product ratings, an achievement which no other Middle East/Africa low cost airline managed to match. kulula scored three out of five for their product experience, which evaluates the on board amenities.

The score was achieved because of kulula's fresh and tasty food as well as the wide selection of beverages which are supplied by their in-house catering operation, Food Directions. Owing to kulula's recent fleet upgrade of Next Generation Boeing 737 - 800's, kulula's comfortable and reclining seats and an abundance of cabin space were also a contributing factor to the top score.

kulula scored high in the safety rating. The safety rating is based on a comprehensive analysis using information from the world's aviation governing body and leading associations. kulula is IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) compliant which means that they strive to maintain the highest standard of safety at all times.

"We were extremely impressed with kulula's communication with its customers through advertising and social media. They sure know how to take the hassle out of travel with a smile" says Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief for AirlineRatings.com.

Shaun Pozyn, head of marketing for kulula says, "We are honoured to win this award two years in a row. This is a testament to our dedication to quality service. It is a great accolade to be ranked so favourably among the best airlines in the world."
