Agri's got Talent is back. This joint project between HORTGRO, the VinPro Foundation and the Western Cape Department of Agriculture gives talented agricultural workers in the fruit and wine industry the opportunity to develop their singing talent and win prizes.

Esté Beerwinkel, organiser of the 2017 event, said the competition is unique in that it breaks down walls between people. “It gives agricultural workers the chance to broaden their horizons and build new relationships. Apart from singing, the project gives participants the opportunity to develop various life skills which they can plough back into their communities.”

Anyone who can sing, is 18 years and older, and has been working on a farm, in a pack house or cellar for at least three consecutive months in the past 12 months can enter. The project consists of a selection process, a week of training in singing and life skills for the top 10 finalists, as well as a gala event during which a team of judges appoint the winner. The winner receives a cash prize and stands the chance to perform at agricultural events.

This is the fourth year that Agri’s got Talent has been running. The previous winners, Ayabonga Mhobo, Armando Baartman and Neville Fortuin are frequent performers - with Mhobo also performing in the Netherlands.

We are looking for the next Karin Kortjé or Emo Adams. If you have talent, why not be bold and seize this opportunity? It might just be you.

You may only enter if you are an agricultural worker in one of the following industries: apple, pear, plum, nectarine, apricot, pomegranate, raspberry, cherry, dried fruit, honeybush tea, table grapes, fynbos or olives.
