Creative exhibition on during World Cup

The multi-disciplinary Cape Creative Exhibition will be open from 10 June to 18 July 2010 to showcase a select range of locally produced craft, design, fine arts, audiovisual and performing art during the World Cup. Housed at 37 Main Road Greenpoint, in a previously derelict building, it has been transformed into a stunning industrial style double story to house the exhibition, screenings, a stage, a small coffee shop and a large garden from which to enjoy nibbles, live music and poetry readings. It will also be home to The Fringe Arts' pop-up store gallery, a 100% local art and design collective.

The exhibition is spearheaded by the Indalo Project, which recognises and supports local creative talent and brings together a variety of works produced by experienced designers and artists affiliated to the Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI), Cape Film Commission, Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA), Performing Arts Network of South Africa (PANSA) and the Africa Centre.

Design, intervention programme

While exhibition is in the public eye, the Indalo project is presently also involved in a R6 million design & intervention programme with nine different local hand-made producer organisations, partnering professional designers with budding craft-artists to create innovative original ranges. Born from the founders of the Streetwires studios, start-up capital was given by the Shared Growth Challenge Fund, a fantastic public-private partnership set up by the Business Trust.
