Medscheme scoops accolades at PMR awards

Multi medical scheme administrator and managed care services provider, Medscheme, received nine awards for excellence in recognition of the excellent results achieved in surveys conducted by Professional Management Review (PMR) Africa survey late last year.

The accolades include a Golden Arrow Award for achieving the highest overall score of all accredited medical scheme administrators as well as seven Diamond Awards and a Golden Arrow award for excellence in managed healthcare services.

The PMR Awards celebrate excellence in South African businesses and the awards are presented based on the results achived in annual research surveys across a range of industry sectors. The respondents to the surveys include leading CEOs, business decision-makers, HR executives, medical scheme trustees as well as healthcare professionals across the the country. Companies are measured on their ability to manage risk, ability to manage unique member profiles, BEE, value-adding partnerships, relationships with providers and management and integration of data to name but a few.

Medscheme Health Risk Solutions was rated the top providers of managed healthcare services having achieved seven Diamond Arow awards (the highest possible award) and one Gold Award for excellence. The managed care survey asks respondents to rate accredited managed care providers' performance across 14 specific managed care services, scoring each service individually. Medscheme Health Risk Solutions achieved the highest score across seven of a possible 14 managed care services.

In addition, Medscheme Health achieved a Golden Arrow award award for excellence, for attaining the highest overall score of all accredited medical scheme administrators. Respondents were asked to rate administrators across a range of 24 attributes ranging from the accuracy of statements and communication to turnaround times and value-added initiatives.

Kevin Aron, Managing Director of Medscheme Health is delighted about the awards but stresses that this will not impact the company's policy of continuous improvement. “Medscheme Health has a dedicated quality control department which monitors the performance of the operation to ensure that Medscheme's stringent quality standards are either met or exceeded. Our policy of continuous improvement ensures that once the short-term service and quality goals are met, the bar is raised once again.”

In 2008 Medscheme Health Risk Solutions also received a Golden Arrow award for achieving the highest overall score for the excellence of its HIV/Aids, asthma, diabetes and cardio vascular disease management programmes.

Pieter Dorfling, Managing Director of Medscheme Health Risk Solutions says, “Medscheme Health Risk Solutions' aim is to set the standard in providing managed care services and Aid for AIDS is a shining example of the standard of excellence we offer. Our philosophy is that successful healthcare systems of the future will be those that have access to the differentiated components of health risk management.

“Medscheme is proud to have been awarded these accolades which demonstrate that our strategies are achieving their objectives. However, we will always be looking for opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of the services we provide to our medical scheme client members,” concludes Dorfling.
