Brewster goes sailing

The Scholar Ship, allegedly the world's first ocean-roaming university sailing from continent to continent in quest of cultural knowledge, has appointed Marcus Brewster Publicity (MBP) as its agency of record for South Africa, it was announced yesterday, Tuesday, 26 February 2008.

An initiative between Royal Caribbean Cruises and a global consortium of leading universities including UCLA, the Scholar Ship sails into Cape Town today, Wednesday 27 February, and will be anchored at # 2 Jetty at the V&A Waterfront. A welcoming reception will take place with various government, media, educators and corporate guests onboard the ship.

More than 200 university students and faculty representing 35 countries will spend six days in the Mother City conducting academic field study and travel.

Strategic partnerships

MBP will be involved in brokering strategic partnerships for the Scholar Ship, apart from chartering her course in South African media waters.

Commenting on the account gain, CEO Marcus Brewster said: “It was a real benchmark of MBP's standing to be selected from amongst some of the largest global PR agencies to handle the South African leg of the Scholar Ship's tenure in local waters...

“Multinational corporations such as IBM, Microsoft and HSBC Bank have also been engaged to ensure the programme's learning outcomes are relevant and practical in the work force. The Scholar Ship's introduction reflects the increased interest and extraordinary growth in enriching study abroad programs worldwide, and the fact that we live in an increasingly flatter world.”
