Solairedirect, a subsidiary of one of France's largest privately owned solar power producers, has constructed one of the first solar photovoltaic manufacturing facilities in South Africa. "This is a significant first step for the independent power production industry and effectively signals the start of independently generated electricity forming part of the South African energy mix. It is encouraging that changes to legislation are now resulting in projects going ahead and the company is hopeful the renewable energy industry will follow behind very shortly," said Ryan Hammond, MD of Solairedirect Southern Africa.
