Digicape opens digital video solutions division

Digicape, South Africa's leading Apple Centre, has opened a digital video solutions and consultancy division to be headed up by Apple video expert, Glenn Seiler. Digicape's services will now include solution design and implementation as well as technical support and training, helping drive the local film and production industry to provide more sophisticated, complete services for both local and international clients.

Final Cut Pro, Apple's professional video and film editing software is the fastest growing Apple product in Europe, but this trend is not reflected in South Africa, even though the local market represents one of the most rapidly growing regions for Apple in the world. Robin Olivier, director at Digicape says, "We believe that the reason for this is that there has never been any formal technical support available in South Africa for video solutions, and companies were cautious when it came to investing in software without the certainty of having an expert to call if problems arose."

Commercial and film production companies will be among those to benefit from access to Seiler's skills. "South Africa, and particularly Cape Town, is a leading destination for locations for international film shoots. By offering knowledgeable support of post-production software such as Final Cut Pro, Motion and Logic, DigiCape can assist the local film industry increase their skills in this area. This will in turn allow them to provide more complete services to international film companies, where South African production houses will be able handle all the work from pre to post production," says Olivier.

Other companies that will benefit from the inclusion of digital video consultancy into Digicape's current offering include television stations, advertising agencies and home users who have an interest in video production. "These are professional video software solutions which do not come cheap," says Seiler. "People need to be sure that they are purchasing the correct solution for their needs and that there is easy access to reasonable and reliable technical support from the supplier."

"Training will be an important component. Ideally, a company's technical department should be able to handle first and second line support. Digicape will work closely with clients, both corporate and consumer, to ensure that these technical skills are transferred. Eighty percent of all technical problems are recurring so by teaching the users how to solve the common issues we can ensure that their experience of the products is better and that they are less reliant on Digicape," says Seiler.
