Foodcorp achieves ISO 22000

Foodcorp Ready to Eat Specialty Division, previously known as Gull Foods, was awarded an ISO 22000 certification in December 2009. As a leading Woolworths' prepared foods supplier, it is reportedly its first supplier to have won this prestigious certification.

The ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System, which incorporates HACCP, recognises any particular organisation which has a proven ability to control food safety hazards, thereby ensuring that all food products it manages are safe for consumption when they reach shelves. This is especially noteworthy as the company deals with such a diverse range of convenience foods - from baked goods to ready to eat meals and hand-crafted dairy desserts.

Foodcorp (Pty) Ltd CEO Justin Williamson says this certification is the culmination of a process that took many years. “The ISO 22000 is what some would term the black belt of this industry, providing an immaculate set of guidelines for the otherwise immensely complicated and multi-disciplinary system of food manufacturing, processing and supply. Most significantly, ISO 22 000 is an internationally recognised accolade, which has hugely positive ramifications for future growth of the business.”

It now joins the ranks of acclaimed international brands such as Danone, Kraft Foods and the Wrigley Company as an ISO certification holder.
