Advertise on new payment system for cabs

iMobilise Transportation Systems, in partnership with XLink Communications, has begun the rollout of the VeriFone Taxi Systems (VTS) solution into 250 metered taxicabs operating in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. This follows a successful trial in 20 taxis.

In addition to providing a fast and secure electronic payment solution for passengers and financial fleet management tools for cab operators, the units provide advertisers with a digital platform.

Advertisers can deliver customised client and brand messages to target key audience segments of the upper LSM markets of business travellers, tourists and key decision makers making use of metered taxicabs targeting areas such as airports, conference centres and accommodation establishments.

The display units process passenger mobile card payments and offer real-time media delivery of full screen digital adverts in 15 and 30 second video slots, welcome and goodbye digital screens as well as faceplate branding sponsorship on each of the units. The digital media includes full sight, sound and motion, detailed reporting as well as guaranteed impressions on a display that cannot be switched off.

XLink Communications will manage the data streaming of transactions and video content to all cabs that will carry the VTS display units in Southern Africa, which can be refreshed on a daily basis.

Subsequent features that will be introduced include buying prepaid-airtime, GPS navigation and monitoring, text messaging, wireless internet access and Push2Talk communication.

Interactive payment and media display systems are used in New York, London, Istanbul, Singapore, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, New Orleans and San Francisco.
