Media allowed to film Mdluli case

News crews were allowed to film court proceedings in the Richard Mdluli matter on Wednesday.

Several broadcast cameras were set up in the court room in the High Court in Pretoria as proceedings started around 1000.

None of the parties, the SA Police Service, Freedom Under Law (FUL), and the National Prosecuting Authority, objected to this.

The court will hear an application by FUL for a review and setting aside of the decisions to withdraw criminal and disciplinary charges against Mdluli, former police crime intelligence head.

Mdluli was suspended amid charges of fraud and corruption, and charges relating to the murder of his ex-lover's husband.

An inquest cleared him of any involvement in the murder. The charges of fraud and corruption were all later also withdrawn.

He was reinstated but again suspended in 2012 pending the court application to review the withdrawal of the criminal and disciplinary charges against him.
