2010 ticket giveaway by FNB

First National Bank (FNB) yesterday, Wednesday, 31 October 2007, unveiled a drive that will see thousands of South Africans win 2010 tickets for the tournament's 64 games. FNB's 2010 FIFA World Cup Promotion officially kicks off today, Thursday, 1 November 2007, with the first of at least 1000 tickets to be awarded in February 2008.

The bank is the official national supporter of the 2010 FIFA World Cup through its US$30 million sponsorship of the event. The sponsorship entitles FNB to a package of rights and benefits that include access to purchasable match tickets to the tournament, as well as to the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009.

“FIFA's aim is that as many people as possible in South Africa should be able to watch the games live in person, and will put in place various programs to give the football fans in the host country the chance to witness the biggest sporting show on earth. We are therefore very pleased that FNB as one of our partners launched this great initiative to purchase tickets to the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup and hand them on to their customers,” said FIFA general secretary Jérôme Valcke.

“Through the 2010 FIFA World Cup Promotion we [unveiled yesterday], FNB is passing on our sponsorship benefits to qualifying and active FNB customers by including them in 12 exclusive lucky-draw opportunities to win a pair of tickets to the continent's most anticipated sporting event ever,” explained FNB CEO Michael Jordaan.

Lucas Radebe

With the help of soccer legend Lucas Radebe, South Africans will learn more about FNB's offer through a series of wide ranging media campaigns.

These kicked off yesterday afternoon with Radebe, the ex-Bafana Bafana and Leeds United captain, sending a personal SMS to millions of FNB's InContact (SMS messaging) customers.

All enthusiastic South African soccer fanatics need to qualify for entrance into the draw is to hold any one of a number of FNB's qualifying banking products. These include, among others, Deposit, Loans, Credit, Transactional, Investment, and Home Loans products, as well as FNB eBucks membership.

FNB customers are entered automatically into each of the 12 draws for the next three years if they hold an active qualifying product. There are no registration costs.

How does it work?

  • A customer will automatically score a single goal for each open and active qualifying FNB product held at draw time
  • One additional goal is scored for conducting fouror more ATM withdrawals per month from any FNB ATM, using an FNB Visa or FNB Visa Electron Card

At the end of each promotion, a draw for prizes is conducted. The draw is chance-based conducted by independent external auditors among all qualifying customers who have scored goals for that draw.

As part of the draw, at least 500 individual FNB customers will be selected randomly as winners of a pair of tickets for the 2010 FIFA World Cup or the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009.

For security reasons, the match tickets will not be printed until a few months before the event. Each winner will receive a personalised and non-transferable certificate to be exchanged for the real tickets once printed.

An additional distinct number of participants may be selected randomly and awarded merchandise of other 2010 FIFA World Cup™ sponsors.

FNB's 2010 FIFA World Cup Promotion will run concurrently with the bank's LearntoScore” internal campaign through which the bank's staff will win 3000 tickets until 2010.

The internal competition has already produced 400 ticket winners, among them Etienne Muteba, a key account manager at FNB Online, who secured himself a pair of tickets to the final match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
