Accessible affordable travel

In its ongoing efforts to ensure that holidaying in South Africa is made more accessible and affordable to South Africans, South African Tourism, in conjunction with eWards Lifestyle, has introduced the Ezee Travel Club as part of its popular Sho’t Left initiative.

“The Ezee Travel Club, as its name suggests, is the easiest, most accessible travel club available to the domestic travel market. It allows South Africans – especially those who previously hadn’t enjoyed the privilege of holiday travel - to experience and enjoy some of the best tourism, entertainment and leisure experiences that our destination has to offer,” says Sindile Xulu, SA country manager, South African Tourism.

The Club is aimed at encouraging all South Africans to put away that little extra for a well-deserved holiday. An up front joining fee of R250 entitles members to a host of rewards such as discounts on travel arrangements, restaurants, cinemas, nightlife and much more.

According to Ursula Stapelfeldt of the Travel Club: “What makes this a truly value added initiative is that members are able to save by investing a minimum of R99 per month. These funds accumulate in an interest bearing account and go towards a domestic holiday. The account also allows for the flexibility to ‘pay in’ additional funds for that extra special luxury holiday experience.”

The Annual Domestic Report, which was based on research conducted by the South African Tourism Strategic Research Unit and the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT), revealed that even though more than 36 million domestic trips were undertaken in 2005, nearly half of all South Africans did not travel over that period, which clearly highlights the untapped potential of South Africa’s domestic tourism market.

The report went on to cite affordability and accessibility as the two greatest challenges for this market. It is against this background that the introduction of the Ezee Travel Club to the Sho’t Left product basket has been lauded ‘as a truly inspired move’ by South Africa’s tourism industry.
