Design competition to find essence of Manentine's Day

A design contest has been launched by Manentine's Day, designated as 14 March, to find a design that embodies the essence of what it means to love in a manly way. The organisers have decided to work with South African based Springleap.com to open the design process up to its community of designers and illustrators.

Through it, Manentine's Day will not only be able to give fans a chance to interpret the meaning of the day, but also give them a say in which designs they want to represent the holiday.

The contest runs until 8 March 2012, with a prize pool of R18 500. Voting has opened online to help the design panel decide the first, second and third place winners, which will be announced by 12 March 2012. The t-shirt with the winning design will be available for purchase on Manentine's Day in its Zazzle store.

Eran Eyal, CEO of Springleap.com states, "It's great to take an old institution, such as Valentine's Day, and see something new created out of it. I am excited to see what the designers come up with, as the brief is fun. The community has always had a way of surprising us with its creativity in the past and I have a feeling that it will do so again."
