WFA launches Hall of Fame 1953-2003

The World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), founded in 1953, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee by launching a major honours scheme to celebrate the best advertising from the past 50 years.

Agencies across the world will be invited to submit creative work representing what they consider to be their best work in four categories:

- Best Saga: Campaigns that ran over 5 years or more within the last 15 years.
- Best Campaign: Several executions on the same theme that ran within the last 15 years.
- Best Socially responsible advertisement from the last 5 years.
- Golden jubilee: The best overall award for single advertisements or campaigns over the past 50 years.

The jury to select the entries to the Hall of Fame will be comprised of advertisers from around the world organised through the membership of the WFA and its National Advertiser Associations, with the exception of the Golden Jubilee Award which will be declared by a committee of 5 advertisers and 5 agency gurus all of whom have retired from professional life. The make up of the juries will be announced shortly.

The selected ads and campaigns will be honoured at a special gala dinner to be held on October 28th, 2003, in Brussels at the WFA's 50th anniversary World Congress.

The Hall of Fame will be available on-line at the wfanet.org web site with news of many other participating partners in this initiative. Users of these sites will be able to search through all the entries as well as see the shortlists and winners. Links to agency profiles that created this work will also be provided ensuring maximum visibility for the agencies behind the world's favourite advertising.

"This is a fantastic way for agencies and advertisers to celebrate their creativity and the special role they play in the world's economic, business and cultural life. This initiative will remind the world of the many thousands of ads, campaigns and sagas that have become an enduring part of our modern life," said Bernard Adriaensens WFA Managing Director.
