Ogilvy cracks gold at Cannes

Ogilvy Johannesburg has won a Gold Lion at the Cannes International Advertising Festival in the poster category for its Harley Davidson "Abandoned Husbands" campaign, a Silver Lion for its Harley Davidson "Reaction" poster campaign, and three Bronze Lions for its Harley Davidson "Ronnie's Sex Shop" poster campaign, Dirol Cinema media campaign and "Parliamentary Speech" radio campaign (DStv).

Creative director Fran Luckin says the campaign was created around Harley's custom-made bikes for women. "Harley Davidson has always been about the tough, rough men who enjoy biking. We have extended this concept to the women who enjoy Harley Davidsons. It's not just the blokes who are tough and it's not just the blokes who like to have fun," she says.

Ogilvy South Africa CEO, Nunu Ntshingila, says Ogilvy is thrilled with the awards. "Creatively, it's been a great year for us," she says.

The award winners are five of 24 Ogilvy Johannesburg entries that were short-listed as finalists at the festival. Another five Ogilvy Johannesburg finalist entries are in the running for press awards, which will be announced tonight.

The team on Harley Davidson comprises Robyn Bergmann (art director), Vanessa Gibson (art director), Bridget Johnson (copywriter), Gerry Human (executive creative director) and Fran Luckin (creative director).
