Abuja Newspaper Distributors elect new chairman

Joshua Orogun scored 156 votes to defeat his close rival Benjamin Obute (Igbo constituency) who scored 155 votes in an election that saw five delegates voting from the 7 constituencies namely Edo/Delta, Arewa, Igbo, Calabar, A/Ibom, Yoruba, and Middle Belt.

Chairman of the election committee, Anieka James and Secretary, Amos Glad, announced the results of the election which was conducted at the Area One newspaper distribution center amidst tight security provided by the Nigeria Police.

Joshua Orogun and Benjamin Obute had earlier on July 11 scored 138 and 140 votes respectively but with nine voided votes, the total votes cast superseded the number of 285 accredited voters by two votes which paved way for the re-run election conducted on Saturday.

The re-run election, according to the officials, involved only 35 delegates i.e. five each from the seven constituencies as against the 285 accredited delegates on July 11, which was aimed at reducing costs, logistics and security concerns.
